Dealing with recurrent bloating?

Bloating is a discomforting issue often linked to diet, but its origins can be more complex. While food can exacerbate the symptoms it’s not often the root cause of the issue. What else could it be?

·        Dysbiosis and/or SIBO (Small intestinal bacteria overgrowth)

·        Constipation

·        Probiotics or other supplements you are taking

·        Maldigestion/Inadequate digestive enzymes

·        Pelvic floor dysfunction

·        Visceral Hypersensitivity

·        Abdonimo-Phrenic Dyssynergia

·        Stress

·        History of trauma

·        Poor vagus nerve function

·        Low stomach acid

The list goes on and on. Bloating is a cue that something is off in the body. Paying close attention to when your bloating occurs and identifying any patterns can be a valuable first step. This information can assist both you and your functional nutrition practitioner in narrowing down the root cause.

To begin addressing bloating start with the Digestion Basics:

  1. Sit Down to Eat: Ensure you have a relaxed eating environment.

  2. Take Three Deep Breaths Before Eating: This practice can help calm your body and promote better digestion.

  3. Chew Thoroughly: Chew your food slowly and thoroughly to aid in the digestive process.

Implement these practices for a couple of weeks and monitor whether your bloating improve. If you find that your symptoms persist, book a time on my calendar and together we can dig in and find the source of your bloat.
